PING का क्या मतलब है?
पिंग एक यूटिलिटी है जो इंटरनेट प्रोटोकॉल (IP) नेटवर्क पर होस्ट की रीचैबिलिटी का परीक्षण करने के लिए उपयोग की जाती है। यह एक इंटरनेट कंट्रोल मैसेज प्रोटोकॉल (ICMP) इको रिक्वेस्ट (पिंग) भेजकर काम करता है और जवाब (पोंग) का इंतजार करता है। "पिंग" और "पोंग" शब्द का पिंग-पोंग के खेल से कोई लेना-देना नहीं है। शब्द पिंग ध्वनि से आया है कि एक पनडुब्बी का सोनार भौतिक वस्तुओं को पानी के नीचे उछाल देता है।

यह अक्सर माना जाता है कि "पिंग" पैकेट इंटरनेट ग्रॉपर के लिए एक संक्षिप्त है, लेकिन पिंग के लेखक ने कहा है कि नाम उस ध्वनि से आते हैं जो सोनार बनाता है। पिंग उपयोगिता मूल रूप से माइक मुस द्वारा 1983 के अंत में विकसित की गई थी।
